I got my doll back today with some, ahem, improvements. The pants made me over confident and I pretty much screwed up the dress. It was all fixable though.
Fixing the dress prompted my mom to remember that she had made the quilt included in the pattern.
All that's left is to remove the basting stitches and put on some binding. This has been floating around for years, I've seen it more times than I can count and I never connected it with the Amish pattern. My mom used to make miniature wall quilts so I assumed it was one of those. It turns out that my grandmother pieced this and my mom quilted it. When she brought it over she couldn't remember who had done what and I said "You must have done the quilting, grandma's stitches were smaller than this."
D'oh!! I could have said it more gracefully.
Another clue is the white thread used to piece the top. My grandmother was an amazing craftswoman but sometimes she would just use whatever thread was on the machine.
I'm waiting for some hands on instruction before I start the bonnet and apron, maybe I should make a tutorial?
Finally, a big thanks to Mary for the upholstery samples. I have a few ideas but nothing definite yet. She also sent a Gocco printed card that was very cool, I've never seen one in person.
